52 Snapshots of Life: "Veteran" and "Thankful"

I'm so far behind on this challenge! I'm going to do my best to finish by the end of December though.

"Veteran" and "Thankful" are a natural combination. My husband and his youngest brother are the two veterans of our generation in the family. Ted served in the U.S. Navy, Ron in the U.S. Army Reserve. There's a lot of good-natured teasing via text on the day of the Army-Navy football game!

Several years ago we were able to share Thanksgiving with Ted's entire family at his parents' house on the occasion of Ron's return from Iraq (he deployed a number of times in Iraq, Bosnia, and Afghanistan). What a meaningful Thanksgiving that was.
Sharing Thanksgiving: Mike, Ted, and Ron with their mom.
This year we shared Thanksgiving with Ron and his family at our house. Friday was a warm and sunny day, perfect for a long walk with Toby on the beach.

Brothers, veterans, sharing a peaceful walk on the beach.
Another thing to be thankful for: they both are here with their family after serving distinguished careers on behalf of their country. Our nephew Ryan is in the Army now, beginning his service in an airborne division, jumping out of airplanes. Like everyone else, we are thankful for the new generation of brave men and women and hope for their safe return from every mission and deployment.

  5. What an incredible family. We are thankful for the service of your husband, his brother, and now your nephew.

You are right about the weather in Colorado, if you want to be in the mountains. There are warm parts of Colorado. Down on the plains, it rarely stays cold for long and snow melts very fast. But, up higher in the mountains, winters can be tough. When I was able to ski, it made winter magical. Now that I'm not allowed to ski, I find myself wanting to go to the desert for the winter! In an ideal world, I'd live in the Colorado mountains for the summer and in the desert for the colder parts of the year. That's my 2 cents about your "Zillowing"!
