When you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on...
I'm feeling so thankful today. Breaking my arm has made me depend on people and I'm so grateful for them.
Tops on that list is Ted. He drove 16 hours straight to get home from Maine to the doctor. He's made my appointments and driven me to them. Laundry, cooking, walking Toby, making the bed have all been done by him. He's helped me dress when I needed that, put my hair up, and later today he's offered to wash my hair. Ted is my rock.
From the mountaintop to waiting rooms and boredom - these two have been good sports about it. |
The nurses and techs at the imaging centers and hospital have been wonderful. I smile thinking of the group at the ER who put their heads together and tried every trick they knew to get my rings off my swelling finger while joking and teasing. Pre-op nurse Allison put me at ease though it was my first surgery.
I'm thankful for the nerve block I got that deadened my arm for hours after surgery! And that I was sound asleep during the whole 3+ hours in the OR.
It's amazing that people devote years to learning to put elbows back together so that even when the damage is different than it looked in the scans it gets fixed properly. So Dr. Iiams - you're forgiven for saying "interesting! Wow!" whenever there was a new image to study! (He's the best by the way - :)
The wonderful folks at our doggy day care moved Toby's reservation for surgery day so he could play instead of moping at home alone all day. He was tired out that evening - thank you Furst Choice!
Typical day care fun! |
I always have a lot to be thankful for, but that's especially true today.
Hope you arm heals up soon
ReplyDeleteIts heartwarming to hear that out of something horrid, like your poor arm, such goodness appears, all those wonderful peeps you can say thank you to!

In a world where bad stuff gets the publicity, people are still awesome and 99.999% of the time good. when bad stuff happens the good in people shines!
DeleteHoping it heals soon - I had both my carpel tunnels in my wrists done and had both arms in plaster for two weeks - it makes you realize how and what we use our hands and arms for everyday :)
ReplyDeleteboy is that the truth! That must have been a long two weeks - glad you're better now!
DeleteI was SO sorry to see that you broke your elbow! Especially with my own recent fall - my chiropractor went on and on about how lucky I was to not break it. And, boy, I never realized how much your elbow is at the crux of so much of what we do all day - cooking, cleaning, washing your hair, getting dressed. It impacts so much! I mostly laid around for over a week with my arm propped up on a pillow.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll heal up quickly!! It's great that you have a good hubs to take good care of you!
Thanks Jackie! Yeah I didn't realize it was such a big deal at first. Thought they'd just put a cast on it that first day and send me home.
DeleteI walked that bumpy road last year... I agree with you, there is nothing better than to have family and friends around you when your elbow turns into a hell-bow... all our good wishes, hugs and potp and a very good healing without complications...
ReplyDelete"hell-bow" - love it! Thank you for the kind words Easy :)
