Happy World Oceans Day!

Today is World Oceans Day, and it seems like the perfect occasion to share a few of the pictures we took underwater at Bonaire two weeks ago.
Lettuce Leaf Nudibranch

Slipper lobster

Lionfish

Juvenile Spotted Drum flanked by Fairy Basslets
I entered a photo of an octopus we saw in 2013 into the Ocean Conservancy's Marine Wildlife and Seascape Photo Contest. You can see it here:

And if you feel like it, support the Ocean Conservancy by voting for my photo, Unexpected Octopus.

I hope you enjoyed these images of the ocean's amazing creatures on World Ocean's Day!

  4. While I admit to not being the biggest fish fan, I do appreciate the ocean. Thanks for sharing this day!

    1. I like all the fish but the invertebrates are my favorites. Sometimes I just look around under the water in awe of the fact that almost everything I see is an animal, including the plant-like creatures.

  6. Fabulous photos! I have to admit I have an irrational fear of fish touching me. (Weird, huh?) But they sure are amazing creatures! Did you see that octopus video making the rounds the other day where he was carring a coconut shell and crawled inside it?

    1. Yes! That was a cool video!
The fish have a completely rational fear of us touching them so it's never a problem ;) but one time years and years ago while diving at Catalina we were advised to take frozen peas down to feed the fish. Now that was scary and I don't recommend it. Forget sharks, those little fish in a feeding frenzy are terrifying.
