Blogger's Block? Science Has A Cure (Your Dog Will Love It)

Do you get the blogger's version of writer's block? Fresh out of ideas, we sit there staring at the gray screen, wondering what to share with the world. Sometimes the inspiration is hard to find.

In frustration we push away from the desk, put on sneakers, and head for the door. One of the joys of owning a dog is taking the pooch for a walk. Fresh air,  reduced stress, smelling the roses, exercise, social interaction - these are among the well-known benefits of taking a daily walk.

Now, from the world of science, comes another reason to grab the leash and go - especially for all us bloggers. Walking has been proven to boost creativity, according to a study published in The Journal of Experimental Psychology.

Dr. Marily Oppezzo and Daniel Schwartz discovered that creative thinking was boosted by an average of 60% by the act of walking! And that effect held up for a bit after the walk. Sitting down at the computer after a walk, a blogger will still benefit from an increase in the creative juices.

I already knew that I often get ideas for my blog while out walking Toby, and I know some of my readers have said they do the same thing. I even plan the photographs in my head sometimes, and work out possible titles. But now that this technique is scientifically proven, I'll be more conscious of walking when I get a bad case of "blogger's block".

Do you plan blog posts and feel inspired by new blog ideas while walking your dog?

  1. I find walks and driving both help me come up with ideas for work and my blog! Walking is my preference as it gives me exercise and helps tire my girl out!

  2. We seem to seldom get writer's block but maybe that is because we walk every morning for at least two hours. Funny never put the two together before, creativity and walking. Nice one. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  3. Fortunately I haven't got blogger's block yet...the problem is always time.

You look great in sneakers ;)

  4. Hmmm, we seldom get writer's block over here. We do find inspiration when walking...but a LOT of our blog ideas come while someone (Ma) is in the shower. We find that being relaxed allows ideas to come forward in your mind!

  5. I usually have ideas come to me when I am working in the yard. It must be the relaxing fell of being in nature. I love Toby in your sneakers!

  6. I get ideas at all different times. My husbadn and I tend ot do quick walks during the week and long walks on the weekend so we are usually talking during walks and that may be why I dont get many ideas then

  7. another cure for blogger's block is to write about blogger's block. good one amy!

  8. I do sometimes get good ideas while walking my dogs... I think it is because I tend to space out while my dogs are taking care of business, and when I let my mind wander it comes up with cool things. But I also naturally pace around when I am thinking hard about something!

  9. Toby I love your new foot wear and the day glo green shoe strings!!!
    Hugs madi your bfff
