Do you get the blogger's version of writer's block? Fresh out of ideas, we sit there staring at the gray screen, wondering what to share with the world. Sometimes the inspiration is hard to find.
In frustration we push away from the desk, put on sneakers, and head for the door. One of the joys of owning a dog is taking the pooch for a walk. Fresh air, reduced stress, smelling the roses, exercise, social interaction - these are among the well-known benefits of taking a daily walk.
Now, from the world of science, comes another reason to grab the leash and go - especially for all us bloggers. Walking has been proven to boost creativity, according to a study published in The Journal of Experimental Psychology.
Dr. Marily Oppezzo and Daniel Schwartz discovered that creative thinking was boosted by an average of 60% by the act of walking! And that effect held up for a bit after the walk. Sitting down at the computer after a walk, a blogger will still benefit from an increase in the creative juices.
I already knew that I often get ideas for my blog while out walking Toby, and I know some of my readers have said they do the same thing. I even plan the photographs in my head sometimes, and work out possible titles. But now that this technique is scientifically proven, I'll be more conscious of walking when I get a bad case of "blogger's block".
