Medoc Mountain Mischief (and Fun!)

This weekend we went camping at Medoc Mountain State Park in North Carolina (and thanks to all of you who wished us well and happy Easter). The campground was almost empty - just 2 RV's on way on the other side out of sight.
We had so much fun roasting hot dogs over the fire Friday night. The weather was fantastic both Friday and Saturday. It was chilly at night (39*) but downright hot Saturday afternoon. We brought Toby's sheepskin bed and put it right in the tent with us, so he was able to stay warm at night.

After setting up camp we took a 3 mile hike. Can't sit in camp after sitting in the car for 2 1/2 hours!
Toby didn't care for the pea gravel in the campsite, so he made himself a little bed of leaves and used it all weekend.
Toby posed for me next to the Little Fishing River. It was beautiful, with a slow current and a few rapids.
"Let's go!"
He looks really happy because he IS! He loves camping and hiking. And the trails are very flat (Medoc "Mountain" is the granite remnants of a mountain that's been eroding for 350 million years. The summit is just 325 ft. above sea level.)

We visited here once years ago, in the summer, and discovered the only mischief at Medoc Mountain is the ticks - ugh. By coming this early in the season we avoided the worst of them. However Toby was protected with his Frontline and a special prescription tick collar from the vet. Worked like a charm - no ticks!

Here are Ted and Toby having a nice break on our 7 mile hike Saturday. Toby carries a collapsible water bowl.
At the end of the hike, it's nice to have a shady spot under the picnic table for a nap.

Toby was pretty tired by Saturday night. Well, we were too :)
I think Toby and I are ready to go again!

  1. Looks like lots of fun! We hate ticks here! They are all over and the last time we went in the woods in October the dogs where covered with swarms of them we have been avoiding the woods becasue of them which is too bad. Seems like even preventative doesnt work anymore

    1. In that case you're smart to stay out of the woods. I always worry about Lyme disease!
