Superfood: Weruva's Pumpkin For Patching Up Tummies (#chewyinfluencer)

If a food were a superhero-of-the-month, pumpkin would be the caped crusader of October. Pumpkin-Spice flavor is in everything from breakfast cereal to instant coffee. Pumpkin patches in our area are boasting bounce houses, hayrides, and inflatable decor in addition to pumpkins in every size and color.

No tricks, just treats!
So I was glad to review Weruva's Pumpkin Patch-Up for Chewy.com this month. I had no idea what it was, but it was pumpkin! In October!

The twelve packets in the box each contain about 2 tablespoons of pumpkin pureed with a bit of water. For both dogs and cats it's featured as "The Happy Belly Maker".

Now gentle readers, you know by now that Toby's belly is always happy as long as it's full. He has a cast iron digestive tract. There is, for Toby, no such thing as too much rich holiday food, and since it's rarely offered, he's not above helping himself.
Other pets are not so fortunate though. A bit of research turned up the following:

"[Pumpkin] can help with diarrhea and will firm up soft/loose stool thanks to its high fiber content." - EverydayRoots.com

Hahaha! Look at this face! By now he knows dinner's waiting at the end of the photo shoot!
"Veterinarians have long known the benefits of adding a little canned pumpkin to a pet's diet regularly," says Dr. Carol McConnell, chief veterinary medical officer for Nationwide pet insurance. Dr. Tony Buffington, DVM, agrees. “Canned pumpkin sometimes is recommended by veterinarians for its soluble fiber content,” he says. "It's particularly good for preventing hairballs,” adds McConnell, “and it's also good for pets whose stools are either too loose or too hard.” The fiber in pumpkin can act as a binding solution through a pet’s digestive tract, absorbing excess water and therefore helping pets with diarrhea. - Nationwide's Pet Health Zone

Oils found in pumpkin seeds and flesh are believed to support urinary health... Canned natural pumpkin is a great source of fiber and helps with digestive regularity….replacing a portion of your dog's regular diet with canned pumpkin — which is low in calories — will help your pooch trim the waistline. - petMD

This was all news to me. But Toby made his opinion clear - pumpkin tastes really, really good.

Aside from the health benefits of pumpkin, let's review Weruva's Pumpkin Patch-Up in terms of taste, convenience, and value.

Taste: With just 2 ingredients, pumpkin and water, there's nothing to modify the deliciousness of pumpkin. Toby loved this product.

Convenience: Hard to beat a small box that is stored in the pantry and contains 12 single-serving envelopes. And you can set up Auto-ship through Chewy.com to have a monthly supply delivered right to your door. It can't get more convenient than that unless your pet does it all for you.

Value: At Chewy.com's sale price of $7.44, this is a good value to keep in the cupboard for "as needed" tummy treatment, ready to serve when your fur babies have belly issues. If you have just one small dog or cat, you could make a single box last almost all month by serving 1/2 packet (1 T.) per day. If  you would like to serve pumpkin every day as a nutritional supplement, especially to multiple pets, you do have better price options. Thrifty pet parents can visit the local pumpkin patch on Nov. 1, when pie pumpkins will be dirt cheap or free. They are so easily converted to pureed pumpkin to store in the freezer. Or, just buy plain canned pumpkin.
Pumpkin Patch-Up may be a good value for you based on your individual situation. If you choose to autoship, Chewy.com gives a 20% discount on your order.

I recommend trying Weruva's Pumpkin Patch-Up on your pet's dinner or as a treat. You can't go wrong, and you may find that it's a great way to help keep your pet's belly happy!

Disclaimer: I was given a free box of Weruva's Pumpkin Patch-Up for an honest review by Chewy.com. No other compensation was provided. I only review products I believe might interest readers of Terra Toby. I've had excellent experiences personally as a customer of Chewy.com.
