{This Moment} See Beautiful: Little Baby Things

Today is See Beautiful Friday, the blog hop devoted to recognizing beauty every where, every day.

Cleaning out the closet, I spotted the bag of baby clothes I saved when my babies were no longer babies. They've been on the shelf in a plastic bag since we moved in almost 20 years ago. I decided to wash them and store them in something a little neater.

I guess I saved them all these years because 1) they are a tangible reminder of the joy of holding my tiny little ones, 2) they are SO TINY! Us grandmas forget just how tiny newborns are!, and 3) these things were all handmade with love for my babies.
My mother, Judith Myers, is a gifted knitter. She made this tiny outfit for Amber. Now, Amber was only 6 1/2 pounds at birth but she was only able to wear it for about a month before she outgrew it. Lauren and Kevin were both too big for it right from birth.

Ted's grandmother enjoyed crotchet, and made this sweet sweater set for Amber. This one is bigger and all three children were able to wear it.

The hospital where Kevin was born put these little caps on the newborns. Some kind lady - I like to think she was someone's grandmother - knitted this little hat. (The bootie is there to show how little the hat is).

Ted's grandma, Mary Shaffer, made a yellow sweater set just like the white one for Lauren. I don't know why I still have this cap. I gave the sweater to Lauren when she brought Mareto home so he could use it.
I'm far too uncoordinated to knit, but I managed to crotchet this receiving blanket for Kevin. I was in my thirties and the girls were both in school so I actually found time to make this!

  2. So sweet! I love baby clothes! I had a great-aunt who loved to knit and she knitted stuff for us when we were born... and when I was a kid she used to knit clothes for my dolls! I can knit, but nothing fancy... just straight things like blankets and scarves!

  5. Those are priceless! I have a number of my children's clothes and receiving blankets that a friend knitted for each of them. I also saved my son's first Levis and they are like for 8 months or something ridiculous. Cutest jeans ever! LOL!

  8. My mom kept a couple of things from each of her kids and I remember loving looking at my baby clothes when I was a teenager. No idea if she still has them.

  9. Your children had such amazing warm hand-made clothes. They are, indeed, incredibly beautiful - because I can see the love that went into making them and saving them for all these years.
